WHY THIS SURVEY MATTERS

Use ISO 20283-2 for propulsion-excited structural vibration where applicable, relevant class rules, project specifications and engineering criteria appropriate to the structure and purpose. Do not use habitability values as structural integrity limits.

02Is high vibration always a structural-strength problem?+

No. Comfort or equipment issues can occur well below structural damage levels; the applicable assessment basis must be defined.

03Why measure several locations at once?+

Spatial and phase relationships help reveal how the structure moves and distinguish local from global response.

04Can you recommend reinforcement?+

STRUCTURAL VIBRATION DIAGNOSTICS

Separate the forcing source from the structure that responds.

Marine structural vibration testing, hull vibration measurement and shipboard resonance analysis must connect the complaint to operating speed, forcing order, response shape and transmission path. A high reading alone cannot show whether the source is propeller excitation, machinery, shaftline, a flexible panel, a foundation or a local resonance.
